\u201cI cannot go to school today,”<\/p>\n
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have the measles and the mumps,<\/p>\n
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.<\/p>\n
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,<\/p>\n
I\u2019m going blind in my right eye.<\/p>\n
My tonsils are as big as rocks,<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve counted sixteen chicken pox<\/p>\n
And there\u2019s one more–that\u2019s seventeen,<\/p>\n
And don\u2019t you think my face looks green?<\/p>\n
My leg is cut–my eyes are blue–<\/p>\n
It might be instamatic flu.<\/p>\n
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,<\/p>\n
I\u2019m sure that my left leg is broke–<\/p>\n
My hip hurts when I move my chin,<\/p>\n
My belly button\u2019s caving in,<\/p>\n
My back is wrenched, my ankle\u2019s sprained,<\/p>\n
My \u2018pendix pains each time it rains.<\/p>\n
My nose is cold, my toes are numb.<\/p>\n
I have a sliver in my thumb.<\/p>\n
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,<\/p>\n
I hardly whisper when I speak.<\/p>\n
My tongue is filling up my mouth,<\/p>\n
I think my hair is falling out.<\/p>\n
My elbow\u2019s bent, my spine ain\u2019t straight,<\/p>\n
My temperature is one-o-eight.<\/p>\n
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,<\/p>\n
There is a hole inside my ear.<\/p>\n
I have a hangnail, and my heart is–what?<\/p>\n
What\u2019s that? What\u2019s that you say?<\/p>\n
You say today is. . .Saturday?<\/p>\n
G\u2019bye, I\u2019m going out to play!\u201d<\/p>\n
