Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night<\/p>\n
Sailed off in a wooden shoe,–<\/p>\n
Sailed on a river of crystal light<\/p>\n
Into a sea of dew.<\/p>\n
“Where are you going, and what do you wish?”<\/p>\n
The old moon asked the three.<\/p>\n
“We have come to fish for the herring-fish<\/p>\n
That live in this beautiful sea;<\/p>\n
Nets of silver and gold have we,”<\/p>\n
Said Wynken,<\/p>\n
Blynken,<\/p>\n
And Nod.<\/p>\n
The old moon laughed and sang a song,<\/p>\n
As they rocked in the wooden shoe;<\/p>\n
And the wind that sped them all night long<\/p>\n
Ruffled the waves of dew;<\/p>\n
The little stars were the herring-fish<\/p>\n
That lived in the beautiful sea.<\/p>\n
“Now cast your nets wherever you wish,–<\/p>\n
Never afraid are we!”<\/p>\n
So cried the stars to the fishermen three,<\/p>\n
Wynken,<\/p>\n
Blynken,<\/p>\n
And Nod.<\/p>\n
All night long their nets they threw<\/p>\n
To the stars in the twinkling foam,–<\/p>\n
Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe,<\/p>\n
Bringing the fishermen home:<\/p>\n
‘Twas all so pretty a sail, it seemed<\/p>\n
As if it could not be;<\/p>\n
And some folk thought ’twas a dream they’d dreamed<\/p>\n
Of sailing that beautiful sea;<\/p>\n
But I shall name you the fishermen three:<\/p>\n
Wynken,<\/p>\n
Blynken,<\/p>\n
And Nod.<\/p>\n
Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,<\/p>\n
And Nod is a little head,<\/p>\n
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies<\/p>\n
Is a wee one’s trundle-bed;<\/p>\n
So shut your eyes while Mother sings<\/p>\n
Of wonderful sights that be,<\/p>\n
And you shall see the beautiful things<\/p>\n
As you rock in the misty sea<\/p>\n
Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three:–<\/p>\n
