In this lesson we will be learning about culture and tradition!

What is culture?

Culture is the shared traditions and customs of a particular community. Culture includes foods, clothing, rituals, language, and family structure. Culture influences who we are. Communities may be made up of just one or two cultural groups, but may have many more.

What is tradition?

Traditions are beliefs, customs, and information passed down through generations, usually within a family unit.

Time to brainstorm!

Think about the community you live in and what your culture looks like. What about the classroom? Are we a community with a specific culture? Think over these questions, then go to the following link to our interactive whiteboard and put up 1-3 “sticky notes” with examples of culture, and what examples of culture you see in our classroom.
